There she sits in silence all alone
As her thoughts saunter down the hallways of stories untold
Of stories carefully tucked into waiting shadows
Words left unspoken, cos they weighed too heavily on the tongue
Here in these hollowed hallways the past beckons
As they hang from open vases brimming with broken promises
And vast shelves lined with dreams forgotten
Dreams that were barely lived before they became wistful memories
Memories of battles fought and of victory's glee
An exhibit of moments lived is all that's left to see
Of letters unread, unsent, now roam free
In this museum, antique dreams are relieved
So let her be, this girl of unhinged spirit
Let her thoughts run deep and find her some relief
And let her learn that silence isn't her only choice
She can choose to speak up and use her voice.
Analysis of the Poem
Stanza 1
The poem opens with a solitary figure lost in thought. The image of “hallways of stories untold” suggests an internal world rich with potential narratives. The speaker’s thoughts are described as “carefully tucked into waiting shadows,” implying a reluctance to share these stories, perhaps due to fear, self-doubt, or the weight of the words themselves.
Stanza 2
The focus shifts to the past as the speaker delves deeper into their internal world. The “hollowed hallways” suggest a sense of emptiness or loss. The imagery of “open vases brimming with broken promises” and “vast shelves lined with dreams forgotten” creates a picture of a life filled with unfulfilled hopes and aspirations. The dreams are described as “barely lived,” suggesting a life marked by inaction or missed opportunities.
Stanza 3
The speaker continues to explore their past, transforming it into a museum of memories. The vivid imagery of “battles fought” and “victory’s glee” juxtaposed with “letters unread, unsent” creates a complex portrait of the speaker’s experiences. The “museum” metaphor suggests a sense of detachment from these memories as if they are relics from a distant past.
Stanza 4
The poem concludes with a call for self-expression. The speaker acknowledges the power of silence but also recognizes the importance of breaking free from it. The image of the “unhinged spirit” suggests a wild, untamed nature that yearns for liberation. The final lines offer a message of empowerment, encouraging the speaker to find their voice and share their stories.
Overall, the poem explores themes of solitude, introspection, and the power of the human voice. The speaker’s internal world is portrayed as a complex and multifaceted space, filled with both beauty and pain. The ending suggests a hopeful outlook, as the speaker begins to recognize their potential for growth and transformation.
